These 9 biomarkers are used by the PhenoAge algorithm to calculate your biological age. A standard Complete Blood Count (CBC) plus a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP) covers most of them.
| Test Name | What It Measures | Included In |
|---|---|---|
| Albumin | Liver/nutrition marker | CMP |
| Creatinine | Kidney function | CMP |
| Glucose, fasting | Blood sugar | CMP (must fast 8–12 hrs) |
| C-Reactive Protein, high-sensitivity (hsCRP) | Inflammation | Separate order |
| Lymphocyte % | Immune cells | CBC with differential |
| Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV) | Red blood cell size | CBC |
| Red Cell Distribution Width (RDW) | Red blood cell variation | CBC |
| Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) | Liver/bone marker | CMP |
| White Blood Cell Count (WBC) | Immune function | CBC |

What to ask for
“I need a CBC with differential, a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel, and a high-sensitivity CRP. I need to fast for 8–12 hours before the blood draw.”
That’s it for biological age. Two standard panels plus one add-on test.
These additional biomarkers give Aeon the data it needs to provide specific, actionable recommendations. Order as many as you’d like — Aeon works with partial data too.
| Test Name | Why It Matters | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Lipid Panel (Total, LDL, HDL, Triglycerides) | Cardiovascular risk | Standard lipid panel, fasting preferred |
| Apolipoprotein B (ApoB) | Best single predictor of CV risk | Must be ordered separately from standard lipid panel |
| HbA1c (Glycated Hemoglobin) | 3-month blood sugar average | No fasting required |
| Fasting Insulin | Metabolic health, insulin resistance | Must fast. Not on standard panels — must be specifically ordered |
| Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy | Immune, bone, muscle function | Specify "25-OH Vitamin D" not "1,25" |
| Vitamin B12 | Neurological health, energy | — |
| Ferritin | Iron stores | Can be elevated during acute illness |
| Testosterone, Total | Hormonal health (men and women) | Morning draw preferred (levels peak AM) |
| TSH | Thyroid function | — |
| Free T3 | Active thyroid hormone | Often skipped on standard panels — must request |
| Free T4 | Thyroid hormone precursor | — |

What to ask for
“In addition to the CBC and CMP, I’d like an ApoB, fasting insulin, HbA1c, vitamin D 25-hydroxy, B12, ferritin, total testosterone, TSH, free T3, and free T4.”
A DEXA scan measures body fat percentage, lean mass, bone density, and visceral fat distribution. It’s the gold standard for body composition — more accurate than scales or calipers.
What to ask for: “A full-body DEXA scan with body composition report.”
Where this is available: DEXA scans are offered at imaging centers, some gyms/wellness clinics, and university research facilities. Your primary care doctor can write a referral, or many facilities accept walk-ins. Typical cost: $75–150 without insurance.
Fasting
Fast 8–12 hours before blood draw for accurate glucose, insulin, and lipid results. Water and black coffee are fine. Morning appointments work best.
Timing
Testosterone should be drawn before 10 AM when levels are highest. Most other markers are fine any time of day if fasting.
Frequency
For tracking changes, retest every 3–6 months after making interventions. Your first test establishes baseline.
Cost without insurance
A CBC + CMP + hsCRP typically runs $30–80 at direct-to-consumer labs. Adding ApoB, insulin, and the full hormonal panel brings the total to $150–300. Prices vary significantly by location and provider.
Aeon does not endorse, partner with, or receive referral fees from any lab or testing provider. These are common options.
Your doctor
Ask your primary care provider to order these tests. Many are covered by insurance with appropriate clinical indication (annual physical, metabolic screening). Your doctor can draw blood in-office or refer you to a local lab.
Walk-in labs
LabCorp and Quest Diagnostics have thousands of locations nationwide. Both allow physician-ordered draws (your doctor sends the order) and accept most insurance.
Direct-to-consumer ordering
Some services let you order blood work without a doctor’s visit. You pay out-of-pocket, order online, and visit a local draw center. Results come back in 1–5 days.
Aeon accepts results from any lab in any format. There is no preferred provider.
AEON ASSESSMENT — WHAT TO ORDER
